How to Make your Vehicle’s Leather Like New

Conditioning the leather seats in your vehicle will help it look like it’s just off the showroom floor, even if you’ve been driving the car for years. When you use a leather conditioner, it’s important to follow the instructions carefully or you could permanently damage your leather. Before you condition your leather, it’s important to clean it to make sure your leather is in optimum shape to receive maximum benefit from the conditioner. Leather conditioner is a great resource to use whether you just want to maintain your new leather or if you want to restore the look of your old, faded leather.

Step 1

Clean your leather before you condition it by wiping it down with a wet cloth. If you have spots that won’t come out, spray aerosol hairspray on the stained area. Let it sit for a few seconds, and then wipe it away. When you wipe the hairspray off the leather, the spots should come off as well. Look for a product that allows you to clean and condition your leather simultaneously. This is a great way to condition leather seats if you’re short on time or short on money.

Step 2

Wipe down your leather seats to make sure they’re dry before you apply any type of leather conditioner. The conditioner saturates more deeply if you apply it to dry leather.

Step 3

Apply a liberal amount of conditioner to your leather seats. The leather naturally limits how much conditioner it will absorb. Therefore, if you have too much conditioner on your seats, it will remain on the surface until you wipe it away with a damp towel.

Step 4

Allow the conditioner to sit on your leather seats overnight. Wipe the excess conditioner off your seats the next day.

Step 5

Buff your leather seats to add shine and to help your leather look as healthy as possible.
