On Screen Action (Mylink vs. Uconnect vs. MyFord Touch)

By: Suzzanne Hibner

What are the differences between ChevroletDodge/Ram, and Ford’s most advanced multi-media touchscreens? Wondering how this can affect your everyday commutes? Just take a look at the top 5 reasons that set these amazing Media Centers apart!

The Myford Touch 8″ Touchscreen Media Center is powered by the SYNC 3 System

  • Unlike most media centers the SYNC 3 system is known for what is called SYNC Connect which is powered by FordPass! This allows you to track your vehicle’s location and access vehicle features, such as lock and unlock and vehicle status, including fuel level, remotely. You can also schedule specific times to remotely start your vehicle so it’s ready to hit the road as soon as you are!
  • For those of you out there who are Android lovers, well, this will highly pertain to you! MyFord Touch has what is called Android Auto! Through this system, it allows you to read and reply to text messages and access your favorite music through your favorite apps. Google Maps provides voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, and estimated travel time. You can also connect to Google Now and Google Music!
  • Last but not least, the functionality of the MyFord Touch Multi-Media Center is something to brag about on its own; it gives you access to navigate through all of your most used features. You can even change the features in the drag and drop menu bar!

Uconnect 8.4NAV System will 911 Assist

  • The Uconnect system has an edge (if you want to call it) over its competitors, mostly on the size. The Uconnect System offers an 8.4″ Touchscreen Multi-Media Center when the competitors only go up to an 8″. Trust me, it doesn’t stop there! The available Uconnect 8.4 NAV with GPS Navigation makes it easy to find your next adventure thanks to 3-D graphics and detailed views of landmarks, cities, and terrains. This system includes Uconnect Send ‘n Go™ and Vehicle Finder!
  • One of my favorite features that this system offers is Siri Eyes Free! Siri Eyes Free is an extension of Apple’s Siri functionality for enabling voice control of an iOS (Apple) mobile device that is linked to a car’s in-dash audio system. With Siri Eyes Free, drivers can speak natural language voice commands in order to operate the mobile device as well as the car’s sound or in-vehicle infotainment system. Siri Eyes Free operates via a voice command button on the car’s steering wheel, enabling the driver to make and receive calls, select and play music, audibly send and receive text messages, access Maps and get directions, audibly receive notifications, set reminders, and more. WOW!!We have yet to even scratch the surface with this System yet, but to name a few other amazing features this media center offers
  • Uconnect Access+ (includes a 12-month subscription)
  • 8.4-inch touchscreen
  • HD Radio
  • AM/FM radio
  • Media hub with iPod® mobile device integration, USB port+, and auxiliary jack
  • Integrated Uconnect® Voice Command, Bluetooth® Streaming Audio, Hands-Free Calling+ and Voice Text Reply+ (not compatible with iPhone® mobile devices)
  • Full-feature GPS Navigation with one-step voice destination entry and 3-D landmarks, city models and terrains
  • Sensor-assisted GPS Navigation
  • Radio screen settings that complement vehicle personality with brand-specific themes and color combinations
  • Speed-adjusted volume

Last but NOT LEAST is the 8″ Touchscreen Media Center brought to you by Mylink

  • I am going to start you out with one of my many favorite features on the Mylink system which is Apple CarPlay. CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car. CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right on your car’s built-in display. You can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music, all in a way that allows you to stay focused on the road. Just connect your iPhone and go.

For those of you protective parents Mylink provides you with Teen Driver Technology! What this is, is a built-in system to help encourage safe driving habits, and with its industry-first in-vehicle report card, Teen Driver can let parents know how their teenager drove the vehicle and help them as they continue to coach their new drivers. By inputting a PIN into your available Chevrolet MyLink† display, available Teen Driver technology can enable a whole host of features including:

  • Muting audio when front-seat occupants aren’t wearing their safety belts
    • Giving audible and visual warnings when the vehicle is traveling over preselected speeds
    • Setting a limit on music volume
    • Preventing available active safety features, such as Park Assist (if equipped), from being turned off
    • An in-vehicle report card that informs you if safety features like available Forward Collision Alert or Forward Automatic Braking (if equipped) were triggered
  • To finish off the Mylink system, the functionality of this media center is one of the greatest! Giving you the option to view your menu either in a row on the top of your touchscreen, or you can view your options in an app format in which you push the home button!
