Safety First

By: Suzzanne Nickell

Technology has come a long way over the years, especially with safety features in cars, but does it ever stop progressing? These new ingenious 2015 safety features show that’s unlikely. With these amazing new safety features in cars, and the continuous progressing of technology, there’s a big chance that someday frequent car wrecks will be a thing of the past.

Automatic Emergency Braking

Hyundai’s 2015 Genesis is featuring Automatic Emergency Braking. This safety feature actually brakes for you in case you fail to stop during an emergency. It helps prevent wrecks by braking when it detects other vehicles approaching toward your car at an unsafe speed.

Collision Prevention Assist Plus

The new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-class will have Collision Prevention Assist Plus system. This high technology system can automatically break to help prevent wrecks, but it also features many additional warnings that protect you from having even more types of possible collisions.

Attention Assist

Also newly featured by Mercedes this year is an Attention Assist system. This very intelligent system monitors the first several minutes of the drive so it can determine the driver’s personal driving style. This includes their speeds, steering style and movements. Then, throughout the ride, the Mercedes can determine whether or not the driver is becoming drowsy by comparing the factors tested at the beginning of the ride such as their driving style and speed with the current calculations. If it detects that the driver is getting drowsy, an alarm will go off and the car will suggest you pull over and take a rest. The Attention Assist system also knows when you’re using devices such as a phone, and makes you aware of weather interferences such as wind and dangerous road conditions.

Road Edge and Barrier Detection

Volvo’s new 2015 XC90 will feature a Road Edge Barrier Detection system. This system takes it a step further than the fairly common Lane Assist systems. Lane Assist systems are great safety features in cars because they make you aware when your car crosses the lane lines in the road, but now Volvo’s new Road Edge and Barrier Detection system alerts you when you’re getting near the edge of the road or getting close to any boundaries and will even gently steer your car back toward the right direction. This system is undoubtedly one of the best new safety features in cars.

Night Vision Assistant

The new 2015 Audi A8 features a new system that not only protects you, but pedestrians and animals that may cross in front of your path at night. This new system shows where the pedestrian or animal is located, reflects and displays its location on your windshield and also actually voices whether or not they are in danger of crossing your driving path.

EyeSight System

Subaru’s new 2015 models feature a new EyeSight system. This system uses exterior cameras to detect, and make the driver aware of, movements such as crossing the lane markers or other factors that could potentially cause a wreck. Subaru also has a Rear Cross Traffic Alert feature that warns you when you come close to backing into something.
